Lauderdale Lakes is a group of 3 interconnected lakes (Green Lake, Middle Lake and Mill Lake) in the Town of LaGrange in Southeastern Wisconsin and is easy driving distance from Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison making the lakes a popular choice for lake living. The Lauderdale Lakes area was named after an early resident from New York, James Lauderdale, who founded the area in 1841-1842. Each one of the lakes has a unique character, topography and natural features. The three lakes combined have 16.47 miles of shoreline and are a total of 841 acres with Green Lake being the largest and deepest lake at 311 acres and maximum depth of 55', Mill Lake being the second largest at 271 acres and a maximum depth of 40' and Middle Lake being the smallest at 259 acres and a maximum depth of 40'. There are several islands on the Lauderdales Lakes often renamed with changes of ownership including Deakin Island (6.2 acres), Pleasant/Jansky/Riddford Island (3.6 acres), Nick's/Flag Island, Witte's Island (1.6 acres), Goose Island and Dewings/Spragues Island (5.8 acres). The Lauderdale Lakes are part of the Kettle Morraine region and are all glaciated lakes formed during the Last Glacial Period in Southeastern Wisconsin. Green Lake is the only spring-fed lake of the three lakes with Mill Lake and Middle Lake being groundwater and runoff fed lakes. Honey Creek acts as the outflow from the lakes on the eastern side of Middle Lake and has a dam to control the outflow from the lake and manage the water levels in the lakes.
The 3 Lauderdale Lakes are "all sports" lakes and have public boating access. The Lakes have many recreational uses including fishing, power boating, water skiiing, wake boarding, sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Lauderdale Lakes is also home to the 9-Hole Lauderdale Lakes Country Club which sits on 45 acres on the shores of Mill Lake and Don Jean Bay; the Lauderdale Lakes Yacht Club with over 300 members; the Lauderdale Lakes Sailing Club; Lauderdale Lakes Snowmobile Club and the Lauderdale Lakes Water Ski Club. The Lauderdale Aqua Skiers put on a weekly waterski show during the summers on Don Jean Bay. The Boat House offers boat sales and service, a boat club, boat rentals and storage to help you get out on the water. The lakes are popular for fishing and 19 species of fish have been noted including northern pike, pickeral, walleye, largemouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass, longnose gar, bluegill and sunfish. In the winter, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snow mobiling and hunting are popular.
